Greeting- 2 minutes
Teacher to Students- Listen & Repeat (some or all)
Hello, Hi, Hey, Howdy, G’day, Good Morning, Hola, Aloha, Bon Jour, Bon Dia, Bon Journo, Ni Hao, Konnichiwa, Anyohaseyo, Sambaino, Kiola, Selamat Pagi (am) (pm-Siang), Shalom, Jambo, Asalamalekum, Zzdrastvet-yah, Namaste.

Janken 4’s- Warm-Up/Review/Conversation Skills Practice- 5 minutes
Materials- text
ALT/HRT: Janken and do the conversation first together, then with a few students to practice/demonstrate.
Students: Each student Janken and Converse with 3 others in groups of 4. Choose one place from pages 30-31.
Blackboard

  • W)Koban!
  • L)Police Station!

Review- Listen, Repeat and Point- 5 minutes
Blackboard- Poster of pages 30-31
Text- pages 30-31
ALT- In order (l-r,top-bottom), point to places and say for students to Repeat and Point. Next say in mixed order for students to Repeat and Point
Students- In seat pairs, Listen, Repeat and Point. Check with seat partner.

Chant/Demonstration-Where is the barber?- 10 minutes
Blackboard- Draw 12 block grid with train station at the bottom (similar to page 30-31). Also-
  • Where clap-clap 2X Where is the barber? clap-clap-clap 
  • Go straight clap-clap
  • Turn right clap-clap
  • Turn left clap-clap 
  • STOP!
ALT- Use hand motions before clapping- move hand forward for straight; move right hand right for right; move left hand left for left; hold up both hands palm out for STOP! Move marker on blackboard as chanting.
Students- Sing and clap together.

Activity 2- Making the Same Towns- 15 minutes
Text- page 32-33.
Blackboard- Draw second 12 block grid on blackboard, and You Are Here point on each map in front of train station. Also-

W) Where is the barber?
L) Go straight
L) Turn right
L) Turn left
L) STOP!
W) Here?
L) Yes! (No!)

ALT/HRT- Demonstrate activity- On one grid, write 3-4 place names ramdomly on the 12 blocks. HRT asks ALT “Where’s OO?”. As ALT answers, move finger on the 2nd 12-block grid, ask 'Here?' to confirm, then write place name in that block. Do 3-4 times.
Students- While teachers are drawing on the blackboard, cut place cards from text, page 73. Watch demonstration, then do activity like the demonstration, in pairs.  Listening student place cards onto map in text, page 32-33. Next, change roles and do the activity a second time.

Full Class Checking- 5 minutes (if time)
Blackboard- 12 block grid, with Train Station at bottom.
ALT- Ask for volunteers, or choose a student with dice.  Ask: “Where’s OO?”, move a marker on blackboard to student’s directions, then write the place name there.
Students- Chosen student give directions to ALT.

Wrap-Up- 3 minutes
(Present common mistakes to the whole class. Write the mistaken point on the blackboard, and ask if anybody can see the mistake.) Or-
HRT to Students, in Japanese:
-What did we talk about today? 
-Were there some words you already knew?
-Did you learn any new words?
-What was fun or interesting?
-What was difficult?
-How can we make that easier next time?

Closing- 1 minute
Students: ‘Thank you! Good bye!’
Teachers: ‘You’re welcome! Good bye!’
