Greeting- 2 minutes
Teacher to Students- Listen & Repeat (some or all)
Hello, Hi, Hey, Howdy, G’day, Good Morning, Hola, Aloha, Bon Jour, Bon Dia, Bon Journo, Ni Hao, Konnichiwa, Anyohaseyo, Sambaino, Kiola, Selamat Pagi (am) (pm-Siang), Shalom, Jambo, Asalamalekum, Zzdrastvet-yah, Namaste.

Janken 4’s- Warm-Up/Review/Conversation Skills Practice- 3 minutes
ALT/HRT: Janken and do the conversation first together, then with a few students to practice/demonstrate.
Students: Each student Janken and Converse with 3 others in groups of 4
Blackboard:   
W) What (color/fruit/sport/food) do you like?
L) I like OO.

Introduction- 10 minutes
Materials- text page 44-45, or aquarium scene poster & close-up pictures 1-12
ALT to HRT- What’s this? (pointing circularly to the aquarium poster/picture)
HRT- It’s a suizokukan(水族館). Ummm... What’s this in English? (first to students, then ALT)
ALT- It’s an aquarium. (Next, pointing to numbered pictures, from 1 to 12-)  ‘Look at number 1. What’s this? (1-pencil; 2-fish; 3-ruler; 4-eraser; 5-starfish/seastar; 6- lobster; 7- jellyfish; 8-cap; 9- shoe; 10-octopus; 11- guidebook; 12-pencil case
HRT- When students answer correctly in Japanese, its’s OK. Then ask other students, or last, ALT, ‘What’s this/What’s sakana (魚) in English?’.
ALT- Lastly, Listen & Repeat new words in pictures 1-12 with students.

Chant- What’s this?!- 8 minutes
CD- track 51. 
Blackboard-
What’s this? What’s this? It’s a book. It’s a book. It’s a book... (pen, cap) It’s a pencil case.’

Blackboard-

ALT/HRT- Play CD once. Read through words on blackboard once. Listen & Repeat once with students. Play CD/Lead chant again.
Students- Sing along, listen & repeat.
ALT/HRT- Continue chant, pointing to different pictures 1-12.

Practice- in free-moving pairs- 7 minutes
Blackboard-
W) What’s this?
L) It’s a fish.
Materials- textbook, page 44-5 (or earlier).
ALT/HRT- Demonstrate, then ask if students understand, before students play.
Students- All standing, form pairs. Winner points to a picture in the text and asks, ‘What’s this?’, Loser answers. Janken winners get 2 points for each win.

Activity- Drawing an Explanation- 8 minutes
Blackboard- clean, with chalk for drawing
ALT- Draw a picture on the blackboard, ONE LINE AT A TIME. After every line, ask HRT “What’s this? Do you know?” Later, guess at HRT’s drawing.
HRT- Guess at the ALT’s drawing. Later, draw on the blackboard.
Students- Help guess with HRT and ALT. Later, volunteers come to the front and draw a picture on the blackboard, one line at a time.

Wrap-Up- 3 minutes
(Present common mistakes to the whole class. Write the mistaken point on the blackboard, and ask if anybody can see the mistake.) Or-
HRT to Students, in Japanese:
-What did we talk about today? 
-Were there some words you already knew?
-Did you learn any new words?
-What was fun or interesting?
-What was difficult?
-How can we make that easier next time?

Closing- 1 minute
Students: ‘Thank you! Good bye!’
Teachers: ‘You’re welcome! Good bye!’
